Throughout human history, ceramic funerary urns have played a fundamental role in the burial rituals of various cultures. From prehistoric times to the present day, these urns have been used to contain the ashes of the deceased and to perform burial ceremonies, funeral rituals imbued with symbolism and meaning. For many cultures, death does not represent the end, but rather the beginning of a journey to the afterlife. Funeral urns were considered a link between the world of the living and the world of the dead and were believed to protect the spirit of the deceased as they passed into the afterlife. 13 contemporary ceramic artists revisiting ceramic funerary art in the past, present and future from 13 different perspectives.
