The large circles and panels in the exhibition are evidence of Ivo Sassi’s technical research and constant experimentation in his work. He learnt the thick technique in the 1950s at the art institute, was fascinated by it, and for a short time made trays and plates.

‘When I entered the art institute for ceramics in Faenza as a student back in 1950, one of the things that impressed me most was the research some students were doing on a glassy effect they called coarse thickness. We would grind beer bottles and with this glass, firing it at 900 degrees, they would obtain a very pictorial effect.’ (From the notes of Ivo Sassi).

It was only in 2015 that Sassi innovated, gave contemporary and new life to this particular overlapping of glazes, applying copper plates under glass to create depth and effects of rare beauty. For lovers of ceramics, this is a must-see exhibition.

The exhibition is organised by the Ivo Sassi APS association. Thanks to the Faenza municipality, the MIC, the BCC, the Emilia Romagna region,Restart, Blaks.
